David Oram is Co-Founder and Technical Director of Solvehop, based in Australia, bringing more than 16 years of experience across web development, digital strategy and technical project delivery. When he’s not deep in code or solving technical challenges, you’ll likely find him out running, road cycling or mountain biking—making the most of the outdoors whenever he can.

With deep expertise in WordPress, WooCommerce, plugin development and search engine optimisation, David is known for turning complex technical challenges into clear, practical solutions that work in the real world. His background includes technical roles with organisations such as SearchWorld and SecurePay, giving him hands-on experience across both development and business-critical digital systems.

Since 2022, David has developed a strong focus on digital accessibility and WCAG compliance. Working alongside accessibility auditors, designers and organisations across a range of industries, he helps ensure digital platforms are not only compliant, but genuinely usable. While not an accessibility auditor, he plays a key role in shaping strategy, guiding implementation, and delivering accessibility-focused outcomes that balance technical requirements with business goals.

David brings a thoughtful, detail-driven approach to every project, with a reputation for asking the right questions and focusing on what will deliver the best long-term result. What do you enjoy most about solving complex technical problems for clients?

I enjoy breaking down complex problems into practical, workable solutions. Often clients are facing a challenge that feels overwhelming, but with the right technical approach it’s usually possible to find a path forward. I particularly enjoy those moments when a project seems stuck and we’re able to identify a solution that balances technical requirements, business goals and user needs.

What changes in tech and design are you most excited about right now?
I’m excited by the growing focus on accessibility and inclusive design becoming part of mainstream development rather than an afterthought. I’m also interested in the rapid evolution of AI tools, not because they’re a replacement for people, but because they can help us work more efficiently and solve problems faster when used appropriately. The challenge is understanding where AI adds value and where human expertise is still essential.

What concerns do you have with the current tech environment?
Technology is moving incredibly quickly, and sometimes organisations rush to adopt new tools without fully considering security, privacy, accessibility or long-term maintainability. I’m also concerned by the amount of misinformation and marketing hype surrounding some technologies, particularly AI. It’s important to focus on real-world outcomes rather than chasing trends for the sake of it.

How do you approach accessibility and WCAG compliance when planning and building a new solution?
Accessibility works best when it’s considered from the beginning of a project rather than being bolted on at the end. My approach is to work closely with accessibility auditors, designers and stakeholders to ensure accessibility requirements are understood early and incorporated throughout the design and development process. The goal is not simply to meet compliance requirements, but to create digital experiences that are genuinely usable by as many people as possible.

When you’re away from the desk, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
When I’m not working, you’ll usually find me out running, road cycling or mountain biking. I enjoy the challenge of pushing myself physically and it’s also a great way to clear my head and recharge. Some of my best problem-solving happens when I’m out on a trail or riding a quiet country road.
